11.10.08 | North Park Gospel Choir Anniversary Concert | Saturday, November 15, 2008
One of the greatest times of my life and one of my proudest accomplishments, was as the founding director of the North Park University Gospel Choir, then called, "Reflections Of Heaven" Gospel Choir. Besides taking away from it some of the best friendships and experiences in my life, the gospel choir also changed the face of North Park's campus--from it's start as a student organization, to being instituted as an accredited college course; an accomplishment for the gospel music idiom which is rarely taught in the realm of higher education.

After 15 years, the gospel choir is celebrating our roots by having a blow-out concert by inviting all alumni back, and bringing in featured guest Richard Smallwood of "The Richard Smallwood Singers" (If you know gospel music, you KNOW this name!!!) I will have the privilege and honor of joining the gospel choir and Richard Smallwood as a special guest artist as well.

Very excited to be getting some attention overseas by way of Ivo Martins - jazz critic, writer and director of Guimaraes Jazz Festival in Portugal as well as radio host of BAILE DOS BOMBEIROS. Here is a recent segment he did on my CD, "I'll Take Romance". I welcome anyone to send in their translations of the program as I myself speak no portuguese! (help!)

Recently, I cut some tracks for singer/songwriter Stephen Asma on his most recent release AXLE-MAN: SONGS FOR WORLD DOMINATION. 10.02.06 | "Holmgren, Thomas Honored During Homecoming" - Article
Recently I was honored with an award from my alma mater of North Park University for my leadership of the college's first ever Gospel Choir. I am very proud to have been a part of something that the school's president considered a "legacy" to their institution and that my gifts and talents were appreciated in such a significant way. Thanks to my friends and family who joined me at the ceremony. I've included a link to an article written about the event for the The Evangelical Covenant Church website. Once again, thanks to North Park and the alumni committee!

08.16.06 | They like me! They really like me!...
I was nominated for an "Up and Coming Alumni" award from my alma mater of North Park U. There will be an awards banquet on Sept. 23 and I will even perform with the jazz band at an alumni concert the night before that. Maybe I'll even don my old homecoming queen tiara for old time sake! Darren Scorza will be featured as part pf the John Goldman Quartet at the Jazz Showcase Monday, Jan. 23. Monday nights during the month of January will benefit the relocation of the Velvet Lounge.

Fred Anderson will kick things off with his wonderful group followed by The John Goldman quartet featuring, John Goldman - alto sax and flute, Scott Hesse - Guitar, Patrick Mulcahy - bass, and Darren Scorza - drums. They will be playing original music from John Goldman's CD's, "For All The People" and "In Walked Pierre".

The Jazz Showcase is located at 59 W. Grand, in Chicago, IL. 312-670-2473. The cover will be $10/15. The Velvet Lounge is a Chicago treasure and a famous venue created and maintained by Fred Anderson.
